I’m going public today with a secret I’ve kept for a year-my husband and I are homeschooling our children. I never dreamed we would become homeschoolers. We never thought that we would find ourselves looking at somewhere like office monster to turn our home into a place where our children can relax and study. We have also had to take into consideration issues such as the internet. Just because our children are now at home completing their learning does not mean that they should feel isolated and cut off. We looked at internet services such as hughesnet services and local providers before we settled on a school-recommended internet provider. This way my kids will hopefully be able to feel like they are part of the growing world and can learn online in a new and exciting way. I wanted my kids integrated and socialized. I wanted their eyes opened to the realities of the world. I wanted the values we taught at home put to the test in the real world. We tried public school and our parish school. But necessity drove me to consider homeschooling for my 2nd and 4th graders, and so my husband and I timidly attended a home school parent meeting last spring. Thankfully, we have friends who also homeschool their children, so they were able to tell us about different resources that we might need to help us teach our children. These days, you can get just about everything you could ever need for homeschooling online. You can even get portable classrooms for one example, so getting set up wasn’t so hard. Our friend recommended that we get some different worksheets, such as subtraction worksheets and other maths documents, to ensure that our kids can actually practice the skills we’re teaching them. That was really useful, worksheets are always good for the kids to make sure they’ve got the hang of it!
