Senate Republicans pushing to strip Planned Parenthood of all federal funding are gaining momentum after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) put together a task force of lawmakers on Tuesday to address the undercover videos that expose a disgusting–and potentially illegal– Planned Parenthood practice.
GOP leadership has tapped rising star Sen. Joni Ernst (IA) to organize the Senate’s response to the controversy surrounding the women’s healthcare provider that centers on whether it engaged in the illegal practice of harvesting and selling fetal tissue from partial-birth abortions. The new push to cut off Planned Parenthood’s access to cash comes just days after corporate sponsors begandistancing themselvesfrom the organization.
Today, McConnell announced that he had recruited Ernst to lead a group “to craft a measure to deal with these horrendous videos.” The group will be meeting later today for the first time in McConnell’s office.
Ernst will be joined by Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) and James Lankford (R-OK), two top GOP lawmakers who have authored their own legislation to defund the abortion services provider. Paul held his own anti-abortion rally about an hour earlier on the Capitol grounds…
