ScottLambWASHINGTON — Today’s secular driven society seems intent on erasing the rich Christian history and influence in our country. One of the main battlegrounds is Washington, D.C. where one media outlet is creating a place for people to better understand the truth with a new venture called “Jesus in the Public Square.”

The cultural slide in America can be traced back to the 1960s when the Supreme Court said no to prayer in public schools. That led to legalized abortion in the 1970s and now the high court says there’s a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.

“Somebody’s values are going to reign supreme, so our goal is to bring our values to the public square,” David Lane, founder of the American Renewal Project, said. Full story here: http://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2015/December/Jesus-Defends-Himself-In-the-Public-Square/

David Brody, the Emmy Award winning producer and Chief Political Correspondent for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) featured a report on Jesus in the Public Square last week.

“Jesus in the Public Square” is our endeavor to bring Biblical values to the public square in Washington, DC, by means of The Washington Times. Click on image above to watch the 3 minute video; “Jesus in the Public Square.”

God will defend himself.

If Christians are to reestablish the Biblical-based culture laid by America’s Founders, Secularism will be brought to heel. Someone’s values are going to reign supreme: Biblical values or pagan secular values.

Senator Marco Rubio said as much last week, when interviewed by Brody:

“If you look at biblical lessons, the first thing is we are clearly called in the Bible to adhere to our civil authorities, but that conflicts with our requirement to adhere to God’s rules, and so when those two come in conflict, God’s rules always win. In essence, if we are ever ordered by a government authority to personally violate and sin, violate God’s law and sin, if we’re ordered to stop preaching the gospel, if we are ordered to perform a same-sex marriage as someone presiding over it, we are called to ignore that. We cannot abide by that cause government is compelling us to sin.” Read the full story here: http://bit.ly/1TMQpHx

Laws made by the U.S. Supreme Court are subject to Divine law, and citizens retain the freedom even to disobey a secular law (i.e., abortion and same-sex marriage) if Christian conscience informs them that secular law contradicts Divine law as revealed in Scripture.*

Ungodly pronouncements and edicts by Supreme Court Justices are not superior to “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” Western moral and legal philosophy made the Bible, and more particularly the Ten Commandments, not reason, “the basic source and summary of natural law.”**

What makes same-sex intercourse (and marriage) sinful is that God prohibits it, and the commission of the act alienates the sinner from God. The reality is that the U.S. Supreme Court’s removal of the Bible as the fixed point in order to judge (and from public education in 1963), detached “Natural Law” from common sense. Who is to say today what is sin and what is not?

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3).
“Sinning times have ever been the saints’ praying times. Yes, this they may, and should do, ‘fast and pray.’ There is yet a God in heaven to be sought to, when a people’s deliverance is thrown beyond the help of human policy or power.” -William Gurnall***

Senior pastors must reestablish prayer in their churches if America is to weather this unsacred storm.

America’s Founders were rooted in morality (“reason and conscious“); Secularism is rooted in politics (“the will of the lawmaker“). But make no mistake, restoring a Biblical-based culture and returning to the blueprint and foundation laid by America’s Founders will create national upheaval. For example, Martin Luther was branded a “devil in the habit of a monk” and declared a heretic and enemy of the state by the emperor at the Edict of Worms.

Restoring America to her Judeo Christian heritage and reestablishing a Biblical-based culture will be a long hard slog. For what America requires is not just political change, but a fundamental transformation of the entire political and social order: political, religious, social, economic, and legal.

To paraphrase Thomas Paine’s The American Crisis, read three days before the battle of Trenton to the half-clad, disheartened soldiers on December 23, 1776, “The coming days will be the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country, but he that stands NOW, will earn the love, gratefulness and honor of the nation. Future American history books will write — and our children and grandchildren will rise and say — ‘This was their finest hour’.”

What lies before Evangelical pastors and pews is revival: spiritual and political. The ultimate goal is to reshape the national character of America; we simply need a Gideon or Rahab to make a stand.
